Most astrology sites ask you to trust them. We'd rather show you the working. Before any calculation
ships in astRaj, it is validated against real published charts and professional Jyotish software —
and where the tradition itself disagrees, we tell you instead of guessing.
Our rule, with no exceptions: never implement a classical formula from memory.
Source it → validate it against reference data → pin it in an automated test → only then ship it.
The method
- Planetary positions come from the JPL DE440s ephemeris — the same
planetary data NASA and observatories use — with the Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsha,
the standard of Indian panchangas and professional software.
- Computed locally, end to end. Zero values are scraped or copied from other
websites. Your chart is calculated from your details, fresh, every time.
- Nothing is stored. The chart is computed, delivered, and forgotten.

All of the above run as 190+ automated regression tests on every single change. If any
number drifts from its validated value, the release is blocked. The ephemeris backend itself was
re-verified to 0.0001° when we upgraded it — no computed value moved.
Honesty tiers — because not everything can be externally checked
- Validated: matched cell-for-cell against professional software or published data (everything in the table above).
- Hand-verified: the rule is universal and checked by hand, but no reference document prints it to diff against (e.g. Graha Drishti arithmetic).
- Convention, labelled as such: a citable classical convention no available chart exercises — marked in the report itself, so you always know which is which.
What we refuse to compute
Where classical sources genuinely conflict and no validation is possible, we leave it out rather than
guess: Rahu/Ketu dignity grades, dosha "cancellation" clauses, and similar contested rules. And as a
matter of principle: no remedies, ever — no gemstones, no poojas, no fear-selling.
Your chart is information, not a sales funnel.
Reference oracles: two independently produced professional Jyotish reports for two real
charts (kept private), a 22-page reference document, and drikpanchang.com's public day-panchang pages —
accessed within its robots.txt rules. astRaj deliberately does not scrape any astrology website's chart
calculations. Astrological content is cultural and informational — not medical, legal or financial advice.
